It is 7.9 miles (12.7 km) from Grand Central Terminal and is in an open cut at the intersection of Park Avenue and East Tremont Avenue (East 177th Street). Service at Tremont is limited; trains stop every 30 minutes during rush hours, every two hours otherwise.

This station is in the Zone 2 Metro-North fare zone.

Platforms and tracks

The station has two high-level side platforms, each two cars long, reached by stairway from East Tremont Avenue. When trains stop at this station, normally the front two open cars receive and discharge passengers. The west platform next to Track 4 is generally used by southbound or Manhattan-bound trains. The east platform next to track 3 is generally used by northbound or Westchester County-bound trains.

The Harlem Line has four tracks here. The two inner tracks not next to either platform are used by express trains.
